Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides, educational services to children with autism, a day habilitation program for young adults, where clients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities and three residential homes for adults unable to live in their own home. This position will insure smooth operations, administratively and programmatically, of the Avondale House School. Avondale House has been serving individuals with autism since 1976. Job Duties:

• Responsible for all annual Individual Education Plans (IEP) meetings for students including: prepares for and facilitates IEP meetings, assures all necessary IEP documentation is obtained in a timely manner and according to applicable standards, insures distribution of current IEP documents to parents, teachers, and residences, coordinates with the Program Specialist for all residential students on items noted as essential, and implements all programs.
• Supervises all day school staff including: in-house team of Education Specialists, BCBAs, RBTs, teachers and teaching assistants to provide a highly structured learning environment for students.
• Counsels employees on personnel issues, completes employee evaluations annually, and delivers the evaluations to the employee.
• Provides hands-on training and models appropriate teaching techniques, implements new programs, intervenes during behavioral episodes as needed.
• Assigns teachers, teaching assistants, volunteers, and students to classrooms.
• Participates in monthly Program Staff Meetings, Health Care Team meetings, Leadership Staff Meetings, and regular meetings with day school staff (group and individual).
• Possess a working knowledge of standards set forth by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and other applicable standards and oversees day school compliance with all standards.
• Participates in review processes of all outside agencies, training personnel as needed, in preparation of reviews.
• Serves as liaison between Avondale House and all independent school districts served.
• Attends admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) meetings, prepares written reports as requested, and provides telephone consultation as needed.
• Provides on-site observation of potential students prior to admission. Coordinates programs with all related services personnel, e.g. speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavior therapy.
• Provides tours of the school as requested and responds to inquiries regarding agency services.
• Works with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each student.

Job Requirements:

• Master's degree in Special Education.
• Working knowledge of TEA standards.
• TEA Teaching Certification in Special Education EC-12 through TEA.
• At least two years of teaching experience.
• TEA Principal Certification through TEA.
• Autism specialization and behavior training essential.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to implement CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand on your feet for 2-3 hours at a time.
